Yet, in a recent BBC interview with journalist Megha Mohan, the illegal First Lady Fatima Bio denied knowing Jos Leijdekkers, a denial many now view with growing scepticism amid mounting public scrutiny.

Intelligence sources have alleged that attempts were made to secure a sanctuary for Jos Leijdekkers in Monrovia, but failed because high-level political connections in Liberia informed him to avoid the country.

Reports further suggest that intense international surveillance and diplomatic pressure prevented such a move from materialising. Regardless of how this saga ends, the damage to Sierra Leone’s international image is profound. A nation once admired for its resilience and post-war recovery is now branded a hub for narcotics transhipment in West Africa.

This is a deeply damaging stigma for a small country striving for global respect and investment. Critics argue that greed, political recklessness, and compromised leadership have dragged Sierra Leone into this quagmire.

Maada Bio is currently in the United Kingdom seeking diplomatic engagement, but reports indicate that Dutch officials are simultaneously lobbying allies to consider sanctions against the Bio administration over links to narcotics trafficking and the harbouring of Bolle Jos.

Besides the global cocaine scandal affecting the Bio regime, the June 24, 2023, election that ushered in the tripartite recommendations and the restoration of democracy according to the people’s mandate, is imminent. Bio has so many problems on different fronts.
