Ninety-nine per cent of coups are carried out by military officers. Rarely do you see civilians perform coups and it is interesting to note that Julius Maada Bio is one of the 1% to have recently carried out a coup i.e. the constitutional coup on June 27, 2023, when he forcefully overturned the people’s mandates to illegally occupy State House, the seat of power. It is extraordinary how Sierra Leone’s democracy was destroyed by Maada Bio and his SLPP party exacerbated in the last six months much to the chagrin of local, national and international elections observers who did not mince their words in condemning the unprecedented electoral fraud in Sierra Leone. Coup leaders like Maada Bio carry out the same names in different robes. Everyone remembers when the ‘Mob Justice’ First Lady, the wife of Maada Bio, Fatima Jabbe Bio boasted publicly a few years ago that her husband Maada Bio had a PhD degree in executing coups.

No one coup is better than the other. The illegitimate Sierra Leone President Maada Bio committed a serious constitutional coup crime when he masterminded the June 27, 2023 coup after forcing the corrupt chairman of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone ECSL Mohamed Kenewui Konneh to prematurely announce the result of the June 24, 2023 elections in his favour. In connivance with another partner-in-crime former Chief Justice Babatunde Edwards, Maada Bio was unconstitutionally sworn in less than two hours after the ECSL criminal Mohamed Konneh had dubiously announced the wrong result. The uproar that erupted within and without was visible in the aftermath of the constitutional coup executed by Maada Bio. Since then no democratic nation or Western institution has recognised Maada Bio’s illegal SLPP regime. Instead of international recognition and extending felicitations, Maada Bio’s regime has been bombarded with a barrage of financial sanctions and travel bans led by the United States of America imposed on Bio’s bunch of electoral thieves. Fast forward, the illegitimate SLPP regime, having tripled the sufferings of most Sierra Leoneans, is facing what they first referred to the November 26 chaos as a ‘security breach’ but hours later the SLPP bandits renamed it as a ‘coup d’etat’. The November 26, 2023, fake coup, as most analysts have adduced it to be, is now been used by the illegal Maada Bio’s regime to cry foul. Crocodile tears, mere Crocodile tears Mr President.

For Maada Bio to shed crocodile tears and accuse other coupists of attempted coups is ironic, laughable, deceptive and hypocritical. It is even more ridiculous considering that the November 26 disturbance was not a real coup. Many innocent citizens have lost their lives due to the heavy-handedness of the Bio soldiers. Prominent among those killed include Leather Boot, real name Idrissa Kamara, a former soldier and bodyguard to former President Ernest Bai Koroma. Also, a security soldier attached to Ernest Koroma’s House was shot to death. Today, Ph.D. coup leader Maada Bio is crying foul by accusing other Sierra Leoneans of wanting to overthrow his regime on November 26. Executing a constitutional coup is equally criminal as a military coup. The people urged Maada Bio to hand over power now.
