Today’s 65th Independence Day is the Unhappiest, the Hungriest, & the Sickest Ever; The Majority of Citizens are Mourning Today
Quick Summary
Today is a painful 65th Independence Day anniversary for most Sierra Leoneans, the saddest, bitterest, and the darkest chapter in the nation’s beleaguered history.
You will hear most people say today: “Unhappy Independence Day,” “I am hungry,” I am broke,” “I’m sick”, “I am mourning”, and so on. Every year, especially in the last seven and a half years of Julius Maada Bio’s autocratic rule, the majority of Sierra Leoneans have not seen the light of day. (Photo: Too much suffering on Independence Day anniversaries. People want freedom).
There is increased drug use nationwide, thanks to the fugitive Dutch drug baron Johannes Leijdekker, Maada Bio’s son-in-law, hiding in the country, leading to the untimely deaths of countless young men and women from drug intake. Bio has constant electricity blackouts, no affordable food, no safe drinking water, and no proper medication for the poor, etc.
Not to mention Maada Bio’s misrule and maladministration that has exacerbated unemployment, lawlessness and disorder, arbitrary arrests and detention of innocent citizens, lack of freedom of movement, association, no press freedom, no freedom of speech and expression. Those who speak out are arrested by Kamajor security.
The death of democracy has dotted the image of the failed Bio regime. Words cannot adequately describe the appalling situation of the people whose condition has worsened, especially after the June 24, 2023, elections, which were stolen publicly by Bio and his APC collaborators. This was a victory that was taken away from the people’s president, Dr Samura Kamara, the leader of the main opposition APC party, in broad daylight. This situation sparked national and international condemnation against the victory of Bio’s SLPP regime. Now, untold hardship has overwhelmed the majority.
And since then, nothing good has come to soften Bio’s regime. With the emergence of the Tripartite Agreement, the people of Sierra Leone are seeing a way into a bright future as the 65th Independence anniversary lumbers on today, amid this difficult time in the country’s uncheerful history. Therefore, most citizens are mourning today rather than enjoying the day.
As the 65th anniversary of the fake Independence Day enters quietly and painfully, the people are not celebrating at all, as there is nothing to celebrate. The suffering today is immeasurable. Many Sierra Leoneans have been reduced to beggars, scavengers, cocaine addicts and drug sellers, liars, thieves, deceivers, backstabbers, traitors, sell-outs and a host of dishonest and unpatriotic citizens with no pride.
Hopelessness, a bleak future, incurable diseases, and rapid hunger have taken over the nation on Independence Day. Worse, the foreigners, the rich foreigners to be precise, are more powerful than the citizens, thereby leaving the ordinary citizens as second-class or third-class with no respect and dignity remaining. And most insultingly, having a fake First Lady in Fatima Jabbe Bio, who is a Gambian born married to the illegal President Maada Bio, who hailed from Ghana, Sierra Leoneans do not expect anything positive to come from such useless homo-sapiens, sapiens.
For instance, looking at their private investments in Gambia and abroad, leaving Sierra Leone barren, it is a classic example of their hatred for the people of Sierra Leone. Today, as Sierra Leone mourns its 65th Independence Day anniversary since the country gained political freedom from Britain on April 27, 1961, there is nothing good to celebrate.
In other words, there is virtually no developmentally oriented positivity left for the majority of citizens to hang on to besides the Tripartite Agreement. This is because the Bio rascals colluding with APC traitors have plunged the country deeper into the abyss, almost beyond repair.
It is sad today to witness the 65th Independence Anniversary in an environment polluted by the poisonous SLPP regime. The only consolation is the Tripartite Agreement, which is the only hope to redeem the country from the claws of the Bio presidency, thanks to the blessed president-elect, Dr Samura Kamara. Freedom is on the way shortly.
