The Gambian Mediator has Justified Why Sierra Leoneans Mistrust the ECOWAS & African Union
Quick Summary
The mistrust of the African Union AU and the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS by most Sierra Leoneans is being justified.
The Gambian Mediator Haja Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang has justified why the majority of Sierra Leoneans do not trust representatives from the African Union and ECOWAS. Since the inclusion of representatives from the AU and ECOWAS into the Mediation Team that mediated the impasse in Sierra Leone, the people have held their breath with scepticism of their neutrality and professionalism. The wave of military coups in West Africa is no coincidence. ECOWAS is showing incompetence and unprofessionalism. The doubting Thomases believe the recent speech made by the Mediating Team leader Haja Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang from the Gambia has proved that the AU and the ECOWAS officials are biased and unprofessional. Haja Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang shocked the audience when she said that both parties in the Dialogue should think about peace and reconciliation for the good of Sierra Leone. Presently, the main opposition APC party and the illegal SLPP regime are at loggerheads with the June 24, 2023 elections. The wave of military coups in West Africa is no coincidence. ECOWAS is showing incompetence and unprofessionalism.
Maada Bio of the SLPP regime publicly stole the elections in connivance with the corrupt chairman of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone ECS Mohamed Kenewui KonnehL. As a consequence, there is a stalemate in Sierra Leone exacerbated by the international sanctions imposed on the Bio presidency. And things got worse when the APC party decided to boycott all governance relating to the illegitimate SLPP regime. The wave of military coups in West Africa is no coincidence. ECOWAS is showing incompetence and unprofessionalism.
To resolve the upheaval, the international community instructed the AU, ECOWAS, and the Commonwealth to spearhead the Dialogue in Freetown which commenced on 16 October 2023 until today October 18. The Gambian lady Haja Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang is the leader of the Mediating Team comprising AU, ECOWAS, Commonwealth and others. But her conduct on the first day did not go down well with keen political observers. Is she neutral or not? This is the question on the lips of APC party Grassroots supporters. The wave of military coups in West Africa is no coincidence. ECOWAS is showing incompetence and unprofessionalism.
Haja Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang’s peace and reconciliation comment has really angered the supporters and members of the main opposition APC party as well as the APC hierarchy who were taken aback because they know that the problem confronting them at the Dialogue is about fraudulent elections and how the democracy could be restored. The people of Sierra Leone and the APC party in particular are determined to make sure that the people’s mandate on June 24, 2023, general and presidential elections are maintained now. The wave of military coups in West Africa is no coincidence. ECOWAS is showing incompetence and unprofessionalism. (Photo: Fatoumatta flanked by Sengeh and Samura, right).

The Gambian woman, the leader of the Mediation Team, was off track for talking about peace, and reformation. Justice is what is needed, not peace. Fatoumata Jallow talked about peace in her speech showing that she leaned more toward the SLPP regime on the first day. Sierra Leoneans need mediators who are neutral. She was talking about David Sengeh’s family ties with Dr Samura Kamara, rather than concentrating on more vital issues about the election fraud. The issue here is about the restoration of democracy, not reformation. Is she reforming what? Has bribery greased palms her palms? Fake lady Fatima Jabbe Bio is from Gambia, What a coincidence. She is not to be trusted. Bio clearly stole the elections. The wave of military coups in West Africa is no coincidence. ECOWAS is showing incompetence and unprofessionalism. More details as follows –
President Bio Says Post-Election Dialogue Must Also Meet His Government’s Demands
Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has made a noteworthy commitment to engage in dialogue with the main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC) with a condition that his government’s demands are met. This commitment was revealed on Sunday by Aja Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, the former Vice President of The Gambia who doubles as the lead facilitator of the mediation dialogue, supported by the Commonwealth, ECOWAS, and African Union. President Bio’s assurance to participate in the dialogue process signals a willingness to find common ground and seek peaceful solutions to the country’s political challenges. However, this commitment is not unconditional, as President Bio has attached a key requirement.
The much-anticipated crucial dialogue between the Government of Sierra Leone and its opposition, All People’s Congress (APC) kicked off on Monday, October 16, 2023. The three-day dialogue is held at the Bintumani Hotel in Freetown. It’s worth noting that the APC previously rejected the June 24 election results, citing significant irregularities and breaches of electoral procedures. As a result, they opted out of participating in governance across various tiers, including the legislature and local councils. Supporters of the APC are now eagerly awaiting a potential re-run of the June 24 elections. On the other hand, supporters of the incumbent government are confident that there won’t be another election, asserting that the results announced by the Chief Electoral Commissioner of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) will stand. They emphasize that the ECSL is an autonomous entity responsible for finalizing election outcomes.
Aja Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, who is leading the mediation efforts, stressed the importance of prioritizing the nation’s welfare over individual or party interests. In a meeting with journalists and civil society organizations, she emphasized that Sierra Leone’s unity and prosperity should take precedence over any other considerations. “Sierra Leone is bigger than anyone,” she asserted, underscoring the significance of working together for the greater good of the country as the dialogue process unfolds. The mediated dialogue between the Sierra Leonean government and the APC is expected to be a pivotal moment in the nation’s political landscape, as stakeholders come together to address critical issues and work towards a more harmonious and stable future. The conditions set by President Bio, while emphasizing the need for a balanced and fair agreement, reflect a commitment to the democratic process and conflict resolution. As the talks progress, the eyes of the nation and the international community remain focused on the outcomes of this significant dialogue.
