The victims include men, women and children of all ages. Two of the victims are in the Intensive Care Unit but the vast majority are responding well to treatment. The Sierra Leone Police have launched an investigation into the incident. At the hospital, the Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr and her entourage toured the wards where the food poisoning victims were hospitalised. The Mayor touched by the pain, reassured all the victims of getting proper medical care.

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, the Connaught Hospital and DHMT teams, the Eastern and Central Police LUCs and their teams and all responders to this unfortunate incident. We look forward to the results of the tests and investigations and to relevant subsequent actions being taken. I wish all the victims a speedy recovery,” Mayor Aki-Sawyerr said.
