In a heartwarming display of benevolence, Sheik Mohamed Kamara, affectionately known as Jagaban, has extended a helping hand to his father’s hometown of Melekuray, Makama Chiefdom in the Port Loko District. A donation of Le200 million (Old Leones) marks the beginning of a transformative journey for the community. Jagaban, a prominent figure in philanthropy, business, and grassroots politics, has not only offered financial support but has also pledged to construct vital infrastructures. A community center, technical institute, school, and recreational facility are on the horizon, promising a brighter future for Melekuray. Additionally, the village will soon be illuminated by solar street lights, bringing light to the lives of its residents.
Recognizing the importance of education and spirituality, Jagaban has taken a step further by committing to cover the salaries of Imams and school teachers not on the government payroll. This act of generosity is a testament to his dedication to the holistic development of the community. Empowering the youth, Jagaban has initiated an okada loan scheme, providing a lifeline to young individuals seeking to make their mark in the world. This gesture not only fosters economic growth but also instils a sense of hope and possibility in the hearts of Melekuray’s aspiring entrepreneurs. In a spontaneous act of support for the APC party, Jagaban swiftly approved the request for a party office. He urged the party’s leadership in the community to identify a suitable piece of land, pledging to cover the costs. (Photo: Jagaban in Port Loko).

The scenes in Melekuray were a blend of celebration and emotion. Jagaban’s kinsmen shared heartfelt anecdotes of his late father, Alhaji Amara Kamara, a revered Quranic scholar who left an indelible mark on the community. Alhaji Amara’s legacy of unity and harmony between the Temne and Mende tribes in Blama, where he settled, provided a solid foundation for Jagaban’s vision of a unified Sierra Leone. Jagaban’s generous contributions are not merely monetary; they are the embodiment of a vision for a community and a nation that thrives together. As Melekuray basks in this newfound promise, Jagaban stands as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path to a brighter future for all of Sierra Leone.
