This fantastic news for patriotic Sierra Leoneans who are hoping and praying for ECOMISIL arrival has come, amid the donations made by the American government of military hardware and vehicles, to the ECOWAS Logistics Base in Murray Town in Freetown, where ECOMISIL is expected to make its Headquarters.

The donation of 29,000 communication gadgets and nearly 194 vehicles is no coincidence happening at the same time, the information about ECOMISIL soldiers based next door ready for deployment. ECOWAS Mission in Sierra Leone ECOMISIL, a stone’s throw from the Sierra Leone borders, is waiting for orders from their commanders to land in Freetown.

News of ECOMISIL troops waiting next door for deployment has come shortly after the American government has made a major military donation to herald the arrival of ECOMISIL very soon. The US donation to beef up the military might of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Forces in Sierra Leone includes 29,000 communication equipment and around 194 vehicles painted white.

Reports say it was the American Ambassador Bryan David Hunt who personally handed over the donations to the ECOWAS Logistics Base in Murray Town, one of the sites selected to host ECOMISIL. News of the donations has delighted most Sierra Leoneans who are now confident that ECOMISIL Forces will alight very soon to stabilise the country.

ECOWAS forces are determined to restore democracy and constitutional rule in Sierra Leone. A few weeks ago, the Gambia soldiers were seen in Banjul preparing for deployment in Sierra Leone. Their Commander clearly explained their imminent role in Sierra Leone which will primarily be in the communications department.

Sierra Leone’s army RSLAF received the donations from US envoy Hunt, but the jittery Maada Bio was not present. Today, SLPP officials are not happy as they know ECOMISIL arrival is not good news for them. Report have confirmed that two army Generals slated to command the troops have already told Maada Bio about their mission. But SLPP/Paopas are keeping mute.

ECOWAS in September promised to deploy around 1,200 troops for stabilisation purposes, but the September 15 to September 30, 2024 date has come and gone without materialising and that has dented the hopes of Sierra Leoneans. One of the sources was tight-lipped about whether the ECOWAS soldiers are stationed in Liberia or Guinea. “I cannot tell you where, but I can assure you that they are a country or two away from Sierra Leone fully prepared to deploy to restore constitutional rule. ECOWAS wants democracy to prevail in Sierra Leone. It is a template for other countries to follow,” the source said.

Ambassador Hunt said: “This donation has the potential to assist RSLAF in securing Sierra Leone’s territorial integrity, helping the police with internal security, and defending Sierra Leone’s constitution and democracy. With over 200 RSLAF personnel trained in logistics and operational management, this transition ensures the depot will serve as a cornerstone to national and regional stability.”

It was in 2002 that the ECOMOG Depot was established to house ECOWAS soldiers to man the sub-region for peaceful and democratic purposes. Since then, they have trained over 1,652 soldiers from 15 nations in Africa. It has also served as a peacekeeping force for Liberia, Somalia and Sierra Leone.
