Patriotic Sierra Leoneans residing in the Diaspora, especially those in the United Kingdom, are happy that James Cleverly was booted out of the Tory race yesterday. That was why when the two Conservative Party candidates sailed through to the finals after Tory parliamentarians cast their votes yesterday and eliminated James Cleverly, Sierra Leoneans were delighted. The third candidate, James Cleverly, the former Foreign Secretary and the present Shadow Home Secretary, was kicked out of the leadership race. James Cleverly, whose biological mother came from Sierra Leone in West Africa, came third by netting 37 votes. He was eliminated as a result. That was fantastic news for patriotic Sierra Leoneans in the United Kingdom and in the Diaspora after the Tory Members of Parliament voted James Cleverly out of the Conservative leadership race. “It is payback time,” delighted Sierra Leoneans asserted after Cleverly lost.

Why are patriotic Sierra Leoneans delighted over the elimination of James Cleverly yesterday? The answer is simple. Cleverly has annoyed most Sierra Leoneans for aiding and abetting the illegitimate Sierra Leone President Bio. Upon his return from Sierra Leone, protesters in London delivered petition letters about human rights violations, electoral justice, and other vices committed by Maada Bio’s SLPP regime. The petition letters were hand delivered to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office FCO and at 10 Downing Street and to the Commonwealth Secretariat. Interestingly, the Commonwealth Secretariat and Downing Street responded to the letters, but Foreign and Commonwealth Office FCO never responded.

And that was due to James Cleverly dubious machinations to help the dictatorship of Maada Bio. That singular inaction by James Cleverly did not go down well with the protesters. Cleverly’s gross display of unprofessionalism and his negative attitude towards the protesters dented his image. At first, Sierra Leoneans were appalled that James Cleverly did nothing to take action. It later emerged that James Cleverly snubbed the petition letters because his biological mother and the incumbent President Bio came from the same region in southern Sierra Leone. But things turned out better for Sierra Leoneans after the former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had to replace James Cleverly with David Cameron as Foreign Secretary. Diasporans immediately saw positive action from the Foreign Office thanks to his successor, David Cameron. For now, Sierra Leoneans are happy that the anti-democrat Cleverly has lost the Tory race.
