Transition of Power on New Level: Presidents of Liberia & Sudan in Freetown; President Mahama, Two Others Expected

The peaceful democratic transition of power in Sierra Leone has taken giant step forward, thanks to the arrival of Liberia and Sudan Presidents.
Thanks also in no small way to the expected arrival of three more African Presidents totalling five leaders in all. The arrival time of the three remaining leaders who are reported on a mission from the African Union, ECOWAS, and UNOWAS is not known yet. But sources say, the three African Heads of States including the newly inaugurated Ghanaian President John Mahama, will come to Freetown anytime. Up to press time, the names of the other two leaders have not been confirmed.
What is, however, confirmed is that the President of Liberia Joseph Boakai and the President of the Transitional Sovereign Council of the Republic of Sudan Lieutenant General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan Abdelrahman Al-Burhan are already in Freetown. (Photo: Bio and President Boakai yesterday).

Both the Liberia and Sudanese Presidents met with the unelected Sierra Leone President Bio at the Presidential Lodge – the official residence of the President – where they held fruitful discussions on democratic governance, among other political and security issues.
At the centre of their discourse was the peaceful democratic transition of power in Sierra Leone. Reports say, discussions will continue even though the three other presidents expected have not arrived yet.
President Joseph Boakai arrived on Sunday, January 12, in continuation of his mission to advise Maada Bio about democracy in Sierra Leone. President Boakai reportedly arrived by road from Monrovia, the same route he used a few weeks ago to Freetown. (Photo: President John Mahama is expected in Freetown).

As for the President of the Transitional Sovereign Council of the Republic of Sudan, Lieutenant General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan Abdelrahman Al-Burhan, he landed yesterday at Lungi International Airport.
Reports say Lt. General Al-Burhan is the head of the Sudanese Peace Deal signed in Switzerland in 2024. He is a guarantor and lead implementor of the agreement. He is in Sierra Leone, representing the African Union primarily to discuss the transfer of power.
Sierra Leone is a fragile state after the fraudulent June 24, 2023 elections stolen by Maada Bio but today, the global partners are ready to facilitate a peaceful transition of power to the legitimate winner President-Elect, Dr Samura Kamara, of the APC party.
Sierra Leone’s electorates are visibly happy that, at long last, the international community is determined to defend democracy and constitutional rule in Sierra Leone. Anything short of this mission would render the global partners as accomplices to betraying the voters. Kudos to ECOWAS, AU, UN and other democrats.
