Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick Quits Over Rwanda Bill as Sunak Takes ‘Gamble of his Political Life’

News

a press release

16 December 2023

Robert Jenrick has resigned over Rishi Sunak's new Rwanda bill, published only hours ago in an attempt to revive the stalled deportation scheme.

Meanwhile, Boris Johnson told the COVID inquiry that he should have “twigged” how serious the pandemic would become sooner. Confirmed: The immigration minister has resigned Robert Jenrick has resigned as immigration minister. It was confirmed by the home secretary in the Commons in the past few moments. Labour MP Ashley Dalton asked James Cleverly whether Mr Jenrick had resigned as immigration minister. He replied: “That has been confirmed.” (Photo: PM Sunak).

But he offered no further detail, saying questions during his Commons statement should be about the new Rwanda bill, not anything else. His decision to leave the government comes just hours after the government’s emergency legislation to rescue the embattled Rwanda scheme was published. Mr Jenrick has been publicly and privately pushing Rishi Sunak to take more drastic action to tackle legal and illegal migration. Sam Coates: The question for Sunak is is this situation salvageable? (Photo: Jenrick resigned(.

“The question tonight is has Robert Jenrick started something bigger?” says our deputy political editor Sam Coates. “Has Robert Jenrick started something Rishi Sunak perhaps cannot control?” He explains that we knew from the start that there would be an almighty clash over immigration: “But it tonight looks like things are on a course for something quite dramatic inside government.”

“There is no doubt that there are the numbers on the Tory benches to something quite dramatic,” he adds. Could we see letters going in to the 1922 committee or a vote of confidence in the government? And if Rishi Sunak cannot get his illegal migration legislation through parliament, what happens? Sam says: “The question tonight is is this salvageable.”

UN Appearance Means Zero; The Bios’ Illegality Remains at the UN; Brutes Like Gaddafi Spoke at the UN; Next Minute He was Killed; Sierra Leoneans, Don’t Worry

The United Nations is designed to always allow every Jack and Jill in its midst; dictators, tyrants, despots, killers, evil forces, often attend, but their hatred & illegitimacy still remain. Bloodthirsty and illegal President Julius Maada Bio and his mob-justice wife, Fatima Jabbe Bio, are classic examples of dictators known to member states of the United Nations and the world. But as the UN never bans tyrants, the Bios can still appear, but it makes no difference at all. Honest history has taught us one salient fact about attendees at the United Nations General Assembly. Not everyone who attends or addresses the UN General Assembly summit is loved or recognised as legitimate, democratic or a decent human being. Despite the immense freedom to attend the UN, many world leaders are reluctant to appear at the UN summit in New York for security reasons, mainly. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda, President Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong-Un of North Korea are examples.

Marathon Race Ends Soon: New ECOWAS President General Diop from Senegal Takes Over from Gambian Traitor Touray; Real Work Began Yesterday

The real work of the newly refreshed Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS has commenced following the official handing over yesterday in Abuja. It was a milestone for West Africans and the world yesterday to witness the handover of power from the Gambian traitor, Dr Omar Alieu Touray, to General Birame Diop at the new ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria. The Commission held the formal welcome and send-off ceremony for incoming and outgoing statutory appointees and Heads of ECOWAS Institutions, following the completion of the former leadership’s four-year tenure. It was during the historic event that General Birame DIOP of Senegal officially assumed office as the new President of the ECOWAS Commission, amid applause, succeeding Dr Omar Alieu Touray of The Gambia. Since President Bassirou Faye of Senegal succeeded the useless, unfit, and illegal Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio as ECOWAS chair on July 19, 2026, in Lungi, Sierra Leone, very little has been done to move the rejuvenated ECOWAS forward.
