On Tuesday October 29, 2024, the residents at Hastings Airfield in Rogbangba, outskirts of the capital Freetown, witnessed an unlikely stranger, a mystery plane, in their vicinity. The small white plane with the inscription NGOKA boldly written suddenly landed at Hastings Airfield amid shock and elation at seeing a plane there after many years of absence. Prior to the landing and thereafter, information filtered through that the forces from the ECOWAS Mission for Sierra Leone ECOMISIL had started arriving in the light of the massive renovation that had been carried out at the Hastings Airfield. Other reports say the two planes that landed did not bring ECOMISIL troops, but the cargo smuggled dangerous drugs.

Now, after thorough investigations, it has emerged that the illegal drugs transported in the mystery plane are linked to the Maada Bio family. Reports say the eldest daughter of the illegitimate President Maada Bio, Ms Vandetta Michaella Bio, was the one who allegedly flew the plane that landed at Hastings earlier this week. Two more flights had been reportedly seen landing at the Airfield this week according to the announcement made on audio by the Head Man of the Rogbangba Village Alhaji Sonko Kamara. The Head Man had announced on two occasions that he got instructions from the Airfield management that residents be alerted about the arrival of the plane at Hastings.

The captivation now is the alleged involvement of Vandetta Michaella Bio in the drugs smuggling cartel. Michaella Bio made history three years ago for being the first female Sierra Leone pilot in the field of aeronautics and then succeeded in getting the Private Pilot Licence PPL in 2019 for different engines. Caucasian males in the airlines industry mostly dominate the commercial airline pilot discipline and rarely do you see white females, let alone black females, qualify as pilots. It is therefore a gigantic achievement for Vandetta Michaella Bio to make Sierra Leone proud of being the first Sierra Leone female graduate in this discipline. But her link to the plane that flew in drugs is a worrying and damaging trend.

It is frightening that Sierra Leone is being used and misused by the illegitimate President Julius Maada Bio and his bankrupt SLPP regime as an international transit point for drugs barons and corrupt businesses. No wonder dangerous drugs like Kush imported by Maada Bio’s sister Admire Bio have destroyed the youths. The bankruptcy hitting this current SLPP regime has spurred Maada Bio to turn to smuggling of dangerous drugs in the country as a transit point.
