Dr Samura Mathew-Wilson Kamara acquired entrance legitimacy from the grassroots' support-base of his party is extremely spectacular.
The Agreement for Peace and National Unity between the GoSL and the main opposition APC Party following the 24th June, 2023 rigged multi-tier elections and its subsequent mandatory actionable implementation of the Tripartite Committee Recommendations has brought Dr Samura Mathew-Wilson Kamara – leader, standard flag bearer and 2023 Presidential candidate of the APC Party into a new popular political arena in Sierra Leone. His acquired entrance legitimacy from the grassroots’ support-base of his party is extremely spectacular. (Photo: Dr Samura Kamara won last year’s elections).
The mood of the crowd and their enthusiastic response in overwhelmingly voting him at the Party’s National Delegate Conference (NDC) and at the 2023 Presidential elections, securing 57.15% lead against his contender Maada Bio of the SLPP below 40% suggested that the time was ripe for a change. As it became increasingly clear that there was much political work to be done in Sierra Leone, so the citizens of the state began to think in terms of having a welfare state with a transformative leader with the capacity and capability to fix their broken economy and to liberate them from tyranny and oppressions, they voted Dr Samura Mathew-Wilson Kamara.
There were considerable advantages in such an action; the SLPP and its leaders had attracted an adverse criticism, often threatening in tone and content from Sierra Leoneans across the country and the diaspora, and there was talk of forthcoming attempts to vote them out. The citizens argued it would be more resilient to curtail the SLPP’s regime for failing to deliver on the promises they made to the people. Whilst the APC Party’s name from birth implied a program of cross -community and cross -tribal unification in contrast to the sectionalism of the SLPP; a posture of populism against the SLPP’s elitism, Dr Samura Mathew-Wilson Kamara hails from the North-west region with strong matrimonial ties and grip over the South- Eastern Region of Sierra Leone where his wife hailed from.
This cross- community and cross-tribal mixture of the two largest tribes (Mendes and Temnes) has made Dr Samura Mathew-Wilson Kamara not only a potentially prominent ‘connecting rod’ and a ‘unifier’, but a force to reckon with in the APC Party political landscape. The APC Party acting as a medicine to cure the national headache of the SLPP from the very first instance, it had been clear that Dr Samura Mathew-Wilson Kamara was the obvious choice to lead the APC Party to victory.
His experience politically is immense, even at this early stage when the party is at crossroads, fighting for Electoral Justice and Restoration of Democracy in Sierra Leone, his capacity to give directions and encourage followers as a leader, naturally reinforces his qualifications above all else. Dr Samura Mathew-Wilson Kamara stand on the Electoral Justice question as an emerging political evolution in the country still grappling with upholding the tenets of Democracy, had made his name synonymous with the APC Party’s policies and the ‘Peace and National Unity Agreement’ that poured oil on the politically troubled waters of most immediate importance.
The platform he and his Party adopted promised to liberate Sierra Leoneans from the burdens inflicted on them by the Paopa despotic rule and enable them live comfortably without excessive interference. As it was the mood of the people that had given the vital impetus to the formation of the APC Party, so *the fledging leadership of Dr. Samura Mathew-Wilson Kamara in turn provides stimulation for the political sensibilities of the masses, who are suffering in silence under the Bio regime.
Dr Samura Mathew-Wilson Kamara himself has remarked that the line of action the Party took in pursuing Electoral Justice set the people thinking about claiming their electoral rights and questioning their own position as decision makers in a fragile democracy in the hands of few power grabbers. Thus, the APC Party’s beginning of a reciprocal process of fighting to restore the electoral rights of the majority of the deprived citizens, which has characterised its history under the leadership of Dr Samura Mathew-Wilson Kamara, is indeed a continuous exchange of ideas and views between the party and the people.
And not a few power thirsty jokers and supine nonentities of old doldrums pantaloon, who do not believe in fighting for the electoral rights of the innocent Sierra Leoneans who went out in cold and cast their votes for the APC Party on the 24th June, 2023 but their votes were stolen broad daylight. Therefore, the concept of Electoral Justice encompasses fighting for all those who lost their precious lives in the Democratic struggle for APC, including comrade Evangelist Samson; may their souls rest in perfect peace.
Fighting for all APC MPs who were thrown out of the well of Parliament and replaced by SLPP MPs unconstitutionally, fighting for all APC councilors who were never allowed to enter the innings of the local councils because their votes were not counted, fighting for all political detainees and those Sierra Leoneans seeking asylum in other countries for fear of political threats and intimidation from the Paopa Bio led regime. Fighting to drop all politically motivated court cases, fighting to bring to book all those who undermined democracy in Sierra Leone.
And ensuring the actionable implementation of the ‘Agreement for Peace and National Unity’ and the recommendations of the ‘Tripartite Committee. Finally, “since war begins in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed’. Therefore, I’m urging all APCians to prioritise the fight for Electoral Justice in our collective endeavours, for there will be ‘no peace without justice’. Electoral Justice is a “sine qua non” for victory by the APC Party. Sierra Leoneans, please note with keen attention that ‘this nation will never seize from trouble until the actual breeds of philosopher kings take up political office by divine ordinance’, and not by guns and bullets.
Electoral Justice under the leadership of Dr. Samura Mathew-Wilson Kamara, whose popularity is proven beyond borders, if forgone by any mistake, would deny APC Party victory for decades, is the right course of action at the moment. Comrades all, be wise! Note your mistakes would nail the APC Party into oblivion and your wise decisions will make APC Party rise again under the astute leadership of Dr. Samura Mathew-Wilson Kamara-the true winner of the 2023 Presidential Elections in Sierra Leone.
