Soldiers of the Economic Community of West Africa States Monitoring Group ECOMOG have arrived in Sierra Leone for Tripartite recommendations.
The ECOMOG forces numbering 50 truck’s load of personnel landed on Saturday evening in Lungi. Also, the international delegation headed by the Gambian diplomat Aja Fatoumata CM Jallow-Tambajang will arrive tomorrow to witness the release of the Tripartite Committee recommendations slated for June 19. Competent sources say ECOMOG forces landed at the Lungi International Airport where they are presently stationed ready to be deployed to other strategic positions already highlighted during their previous feasibility study. They are here to provide security in order to protect the restoration of constitutional rule in Sierra Leone. For the past couple of weeks, ECOWAS has been deploying ECOMOG soldiers in a trickle in strategic positions as the Tripartite Investigations Committee comes to its conclusion on June 19 when the final recommendations would be released. It has also been confirmed that the high power delegation from ECOWAS, the African Union, the Commonwealth and others will arrive on Tuesday June 18, a day before the Tripartite Committee releases its recommendations. The delegation is headed by Aja Fatoumatta, the former Vice President of Gambia. (Photos: Aja and Maada Bio during her last visit. Tension is obviously mounting in Sierra Leone exacerbated by the sudden self-suspension of the APC party from participating in the Tripartite Committee. This move by the APC took place after they released a letter dated June 14, 2024 in which they blamed the corrupt Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone ECSL and SLPP for refusing to fully cooperate with the Committee. Now, the global partners have noticed the volatile situation on the horizon and this has strengthened their resolve to protect all Sierra Leoneans to provide a safe environment to welcome the Tripartite recommendations.
Maada Bio is clearly unsettled at the moment as he does not expect the outcome to favour him. No wonder the jittery Bio had deployed his rag-tagged Kamajor militias in police and military uniforms and armed to the teeth to threaten the population into submission. But the citizens are determined to see their votes cast on June 24, 2023 multi-tier elections respected and counted. That is why the people wholeheartedly welcome the guests of the high power delegation and the remaining ECOMOG soldiers to Sierra Leone. The Tripartite was set up on October 18, 2023 to examine the fraudulent June 24 elections which were stolen by Maada Bio with the help of ECSL and others. In the spirit of Tripartite, the suffering people of Sierra Leone wholeheartedly welcome the guests of ECOWAS, the African Union AU, the Commonwealth and others to Freetown. In the spirit of a Tripartite Committee in which all patriotic citizens believe in, the people welcome the guests of the foreign visitors. It has also been confirmed that the high power delegation from ECOWAS, the African Union, the Commonwealth and others who were to arrive last week but couldn’t because of Maada Bio’s useless tour of South Korea, will arrive tomorrow, a day before the Tripartite Committee releases its outcome. The Tripartite Committee Secretariat is headed by the Australian Judge Kate Sullivan who has already written the recommendations. Seven members from the SLPP Co-Chaired by Dr Emmanuel Gaima; Seven from the APC Co-Chaired by Dr Keifala Marah and the global partners Co-Chaired by the UN Resident Rep Seraphine Wakana make up the Tripartite Committee.
