UN Security Council’s eyes are firmly focussed on the Electoral Justice resolution to usher in constitutional rule in Sierra Leone despite Maada Bio’s orchestration of the well-planned dinner to dine and wine with officials of the Security Council in New York. The well-planned dinner networking agenda set up by Maada Bio to lure the UN officials into supporting the prolongation of his illegal SLPP regime in power did not yield any positive results. Instead of getting the UN officials on his side, Maada Bio got the shock of his life after the UN diners thanked him for the food and wine but immediately, one top diplomat urged Bio to fully cooperate with the incoming ECOWAS Mission Sierra Leone ECOMISIL.

Sources say, this bombshell statement from the top UN official (named withheld for confidentiality) struck Maada Bio and his SLPP delegation like a thunderbolt. “What did she say? Political observers have seen this dinner as politically motivated trap to cajole the UN diplomats to buy into Maada Bio’s deception and to help turn his illegality into legitimacy. This is a herculean task to achieve where democracy is involved. The dining and wining meeting did not obviously bear any sweet fruits for the Bio presidency in New York, according to the usually reliable inside sources. But Bio’s insatiable drive to continue his devious bribery and corruption traits in dinner disguise is an open secret.

The corridors of power at the UN Security Council seem unmoved and its determination to support Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS is unwavering. UN sources say, Maada Bio’s dinner was a diplomatic blunder he and his SLPP desperados has done. And Prior to going to the Bio dinner, the UN invitees were taken aback and some slightly suspicious when they received the invitation from Michael Imran Kanu who arranged it for Maada Bio. They were shocked because this was the first time a nation having the monthly chairing of the UN had invited them for dinner.

Notwithstanding, they went there to hear what Maada Bio was planning to do. From the outset of Bio’s networking, they knew the motive of the SLPP dinner. The inside sources confided that the dinner was good but nothing positive for the Bio delegation. The SLPP Chief Minister David Sengeh, Foreign Minister Timothy Kabbah, SLPP Permanent Representative to the UN Michael Imran Kanu and others were there. America’s top diplomat at the United Nations Security Council Linda Thomas-Greenfield was also present at the dinner. And the UN Deputy Secretary General Amina J. Mohammed was also graced the Bio dinner. Sources in New York say it back fired big time.
