The success is for the people of Sierra Leone, reports intimate. It was a fruitful discussion according to the UNSC sources. Reports say the world body paid special attention to Electoral Justice during the closed-door meeting yesterday which the APC leader Dr Samura Kamara had suggested and continues to stand for in the interest of the electorates in the majority. Electoral Justice, the popular demand by the suffering Sierra Leoneans, is on the verge of success if what transpired in New York is anything g to go by. Also, reliable but unconfirmed sources have intimated that the UN Secretary General Antonio Gutteres and the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken have both nodded their approval of the Electoral Justice implementation in Sierra Leone.

“I think the people of Sierra Leone who voted overwhelmingly on June 24 last year have won the battle here,” one source confided. She added that the fact that these two topmost diplomats are in favour of democratic dispensation in Sierra Leone through Electoral Justice is a massive boost for the return of constitutional rule to Sierra Leone. In public yesterday, the Special Representative for the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel UNOWAS Mr Leonardo Santos Simão spoke primarily on the Electoral Reforms and the 80 recommendations thereof. Mr Santos Simão who came from Mozambique made his presentation on the Electoral Reforms and other vital issues.

But when the session went behind closed-doors, it was a different ball game altogether. UNSC sources say, the Final Reports presented by both the UN Co-Chair on the Tripartite Committee Madam Seraphine Wakana and the Head of the Tripartite Secretariat retired Australian Judge Kate Sullivan clearly favoured Electoral Justice to make sure the peoples’ votes cast on June 24, 2023 elections do not go in vain. The declared results on June 27, 2023 do not reflect the electorates’ wishes.

What added the special spring on the footsteps of the UNSC deliberation was the recent nationwide speech made by the APC leader APC leader Dr Samura Kamara in which he called on the international community to correct the electoral wrongs committed by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone ECSL Chairman Mohamed Konneh that propelled the incumbent and illegal President Julius Maada Bio to power. The people of Sierra Leone are really suffering and these socio-economic hardships started in 2018 when Maada Bio succeeded the APC government of President Ernest Bai Koroma. Even though the APC party through Dr Samura Kamara won the 2018 elections, it was the international community led by the United Kingdom that wanted a regime change. Dr Samura Kamara reluctantly agreed then to allow Maada to rule. But this time around, Dr Samura Kamara and the people say ‘Nay’.

Yesterday’s ‘UN Peace Consolidation in West Africa – Security Council, 9685th Open Session Submission’ went well for the electorates in Sierra Leone. The sources added that the Final Reports presented by both Seraphine Wakana and Judge Kate Sullivan to the UN body played a major part in convincing the UN that Sierra Leone needs Electoral Justice now, even though the electoral SLPP thieves favour Electoral Reforms. Both Reports have suggested a Re-Run or the illegal Maada Bio should step down. Right now, Sierra Leoneans are waiting in bated breath for the official position of the world body before ECOWAS could implement.
