SLAM: Sierra Leone Advocacy Movement Clears the Air as Enemies Continue to Make Misleading Statements at SLAM
Quick Summary
The Sierra Leone Advocacy Movement SLAM-Global is for the people and no individual or institution can damage the splendid reputation of SLAM.
SLAM-GLOBAL’S Official Statement: Reaffirming Our Mission and Addressing Misinformation – MAY 13th, 2025
To Our SLAM-Global Family and the Broader Sierra Leonean Community – In light of recent discussions and circulating misinformation, we wish to reaffirm our commitment to the principles and mission that define the Sierra Leone Advocacy Movement (SLAM-Global). In our previous communication, we addressed internal conflicts and the importance of unity in pursuing our shared goals of justice, democracy, and national development. Today, we take this opportunity to directly address the recent false narratives regarding SLAM-Global’s mission and organizational direction.
Clarifying SLAM-Global’s Mission – SLAM-Global was established as a non-partisan, advocacy-focused movement, dedicated to “amplifying the voices of the voiceless, defending democracy, promoting electoral justice (ensuring that every citizen’s vote is counted accurately, fairly, and without discrimination or undue influence), and championing the welfare of the Sierra Leonean people”.
We are NOT a political party, nor do we have intentions of becoming one. Our focus remains on fostering a vibrant democratic society where every citizen can develop their potential without fear or undue influence. Rejecting the Political Party Narrative – Despite growing influence and popularity, SLAM-Global remains firmly committed to our founding principles of unity, peace, and justice.
Any suggestion that SLAM-Global seeks to become a political party or a “third force” in Sierra Leone’s political landscape is entirely false. We aim to mobilize and empower the diaspora to support Sierra Leone’s development through non-partisan civic engagement, transparency, and social justice.
Why This Matters – Spreading false narratives undermines the hard work of dedicated members and risks distracting us from our core mission. We call on all well-meaning Sierra Leoneans to resist divisive rhetoric and instead focus on the shared goal of building a transparent, accountable, and democratic Sierra Leone.
Our Path Forward – To further clarify our position and counter misinformation, SLAM-Global is taking the following steps:
- Strengthening Internal Communication: Ensuring our members remain clear on SLAM-Global’s mission and objectives.
- Engaging with Community Leaders: Actively correcting false narratives through direct engagement with stakeholders.
- Public Outreach: Continuing to share our work, achievements, and vision for Sierra Leone through all available channels.
- Collaborating with Trusted Partners: Working alongside non-partisan, democracy-focused organizations to reinforce our credibility and impact.
A Call to Unity and Purpose – As we move forward, let us remember the core message from our previous statement: “Let us disagree without disrespect. Let us correct without condemning. Let us hold each other accountable without losing compassion.” Our mission is too important to be sidetracked by false claims and divisive narratives.
Invitation to the SLAM-Global UK Launch – May 31st, 2025 – We are excited to invite all Sierra Leoneans, regardless of political affiliation, profession, or background, to the official SLAM-Global UK Launch on May 31st, 2025. This event will be a celebration of unity, patriotism, and collective action, bringing together Sierra Leoneans from all walks of life to share in the vision of a brighter, more democratic Sierra Leone.
Join us as we come together to strengthen our community, reaffirm our commitment to democratic values, and chart a path toward positive change for our beloved country.
