The confirmation of Maada Bio’s current health situation is necessary for the people of Sierra Leone to know, even though the Bio presidency is conspicuously noted for secrecy, rather than giving explanations to the public as required by law.

Additionally, unconfirmed reports say Maada Bio has liver problems exacerbated by his heavy alcohol intake in recent times amid the turbulence in his presidency and the global pressure to restore democracy. All this personal information about Maada Bio’s health has been kept under wraps.

Notwithstanding, it is the right of the people of Sierra Leone to be briefed about the correct situation of their president, even though Maada Bio is unquestionably illegitimate after stealing the June 24, 2023, elections that have warranted local, national and international condemnations.

In recent months, citizens have noticed Maada Bio’s visibly bloated stomach looking like a pregnant rabbit and his seemingly swollen bare feet in Bonthe District during his visit there a couple of weeks ago. Bio looks very worried, confused, unwell and wobbly.

The current pressure on Maada Bio from the international community, etc., regarding the peaceful democratic transition of power, among other democratic pressures, has added more weight to his condition, thereby taking a toll on his health.

Whatever his health situation, State House has the responsibility to inform the public about Bio’s real health condition to put to rest the growing speculation. Is Maada Bio well enough to facilitate the transfer of power as soon as possible? The people want answers now.
