SIERRA LEONE AND THE WORLD INCLUDING APC UK/I MOURN THE SAD DEATH OF SENIOR COMRADE DR ADU AEZICK SERAY-WURIE

It is with profound sadness and deep pain that we announce the passing of a very Senior Comrade, a Distinguished Sierra Leonean, and a Community Champion Dr Adu Aezick Seray-Wurie, who departed in the early hours of Monday 17 February 2025, at his residence. The news of Comrade Dr Seray-Wurie’s passing was received with great shock and sadness. The APC UK/I, the APC Diaspora and APC National have lost a true definition of an APCian. Comrade Dr Seray-Wurie was a distinguished leader, statesman, and community advocate, dedicating his life to the service of Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad and, above all, a staunch champion for Servant-Leadership. Comrade Dr Seray-Wurie was the first elected Secretary-General of the APC National Youth League. He played a pivotal role in mobilizing and empowering the youth of our grand party, ensuring that the knowledge and understanding of the party’s values and vision are passed down.

His leadership extended further as a member of the APC Central Committee, Vice President of the APC UK, and Ireland Branch (District) (1982-1992), and Chairman of the Pilgrimage Committee (1974), appointed by our founding father and first President of the APC Senior Comrade Dr Siaka Stevens. As a Statesman, Dr Seray-Wurie was a champion of interfaith collaboration and regional cooperation, serving as Deputy Secretary-General of the Mano River Union (MRU) and an active member of the Sierra Leone Muslim Congress (SLMC).

His unwavering dedication to public service, youth empowerment, and community development will forever be remembered. Senior Comrade Dr Seray-Wurie exemplified compassion, integrity, and service leadership. His contributions have left an indelible mark on the lives of many in the APC UK/IRELAND and the APC Global Family. His legacy will continue to inspire generations. Sierra Leone has lost one of its finest and truer gentlemen, who always stands on firmer ground. “Well done, good and faithful servant. May your soul rest in perfect peace.” The Chairman of the UK/I District Comrade Simeon Bangura and I have had the opportunity to speak with Comrades Alieu Tejan Jalloh and Haja Maimunata Seray-Wurie, who are his siblings, to extend our condolences to the family.

They’ve advised us that Dr Seray-Wurie was a true APCian, and they would open the doors for APC to play a role in ensuring a befitting celebration of life and farewell be given to our fallen Comrade. APC UK/IRELAND DISTRICT OBITUARY ANNOUNCEMENT

Ladies and gentlemen and comrades all  – It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of one of our founding members and a powerful advocate for peace, Dr Seray-Wurie, also known as Booker Washington. He served as the former Secretary General of the Youth League of the All People’s Congress (APC) Party in 1968. The late Dr Seray-Wurie passed away peacefully in the United Kingdom at the age of 76. He had lived there for many years.

Revered for his eloquence, Dr Seray-Wurie was often referred to as “Booker Washington” by his comrades. Our late father’s uncle and grandfather, notes, described him as an encyclopaedia of the All People’s Congress (APC) when discussing the party’s history and language. He was a brilliant comrade, a beloved father, uncle, and grandfather. The late Dr Seray-Wurie was an exemplary gentleman who respected everyone and carried himself with pride and honour among his peers. He was truly a beautiful person, both inside and out.

While we loved him dearly, the Almighty Allah loves him even more. The Holy Prophet Mohamad (SALLALLAHU ALAIHE WASALLAM) taught us that the most beautiful and intelligent person is one who frequently remembers death, as this prevents one from wrongdoing and motivates one toward good morals. We pray that the Almighty Allah shines perpetual light upon his soul in Al-Jannah, and that he may sit at the right hand of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) until we meet again.
