The outspoken Guinean President Lieutenant Colonel Mamady Doumbouya made history at the 78th United Nations Summit in New York.
Lt Col Doumbouya did not mince his words when he attacked ECOWAS leaders for being lethargic against Heads of State in West Africa who continue to undermine democracy and thus go against the interests of the electorates. Lt Col Doumbouya blasted ECOWAS for turning a blind eye to democratic governance like what is happening in Sierra Leone. Illegal Sierra Leone President Maada Bio was not named but Doumbouya’s blast indirectly refers to dictators like Maada Bio who stole the June 24, 2023 elections in Sierra Leone. No doubt. (Photo: Guinean leader Doumbouya was man of the moment at the UN).
It was also a shame to hear the illegitimate Sierra Leone President Maada Bio uttering lies about development under his corrupt SLPP regime. The Guinean military leader Mamady Doumbouya also took Western nations to account for not taking punitive actions against democratically elected leaders who turned out to be very bad politicians. He also exposed ECOWAS member states for aiding and abetting African dictators who pose as democrats. Also, Lt Colonel Doumbouya said most often the West would sit idly by and allow bad African leaders to go on terrorising its citizens rather than conduct themselves properly in office.
Lt Col Doumbouya noted that so many ECOWAS leaders are only interested in protecting themselves and staying in power longer than necessary instead of working for the people. He said you often see African Presidents interfering with their Constitutions and changing here and there in order to prolong their stay in power. After two terms in office, you see ECOWAS leaders campaigning for a third term totally oblivious to the people’s interests. Yet, the African Union and ECOWAS would turn a blind eye until a military takes over.
They would interfere when the army overthrows bad politicians. “ECOWAS would only wake up when there is a military coup against bad politicians who have failed their people. Then you would hear ECOWAS imposing sanctions and banning countries after military takeovers. It would have been better if ECOWAS would step in whenever these bad politicians start going off track,” Lt Col Mamady Doumbouya told the audience at the United Nations amid applause. He explained that his military government took power to tell the Guineans that the country belongs to them. (Photo: Maada is a celebrated liar).

The Guinean leader also said that the natural resources in Guinea also belong to the people of Guinea. There was deafening applause from the UN Summit after President Doumbouya spoke his mind and the truth. And considering the increase in military coups in recent times namely in Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, and now Gabon, it is clear that the so-called democratic Presidents have failed their people. Lt Col Doumbouya was the man of the UN Summit. Kudos. More details on Doumbouya’s speech at the UNGA in New York thus –
Guinea Leader Denounces Western Democracy
Guinea’s military leader Mamady Doumbouya told the U.N. General Assembly on Thursday that the Western model of democracy does not work for Africa, as evidenced by a recent wave of coups. “Africa is suffering from a governance model that has been imposed on it… a model that is good and effective for the West but is difficult to adapt to our realities, our customs and environment,” he told world leaders gathered in New York. “It is time to stop lecturing us and stop treating us with condescension like children,” he said, adding that Africans were mature enough to design their own models of governance. Doumbouya said that African countries were being unfairly placed into boxes and forced to take sides in an ideological battle from the Cold War era, which was not relevant to their current-day relations.
Africans are neither pro- nor anti-American, Chinese, French, Russian, or Turkish, he said, they are “simply pro-African”. “Placing us under the influence of this or that power is an insult. It is contempt and racism towards a continent of more than 1.3 billion people.” Doumbouya took power by overthrowing Alpha Conde, Guinea’s then 84-year-old president who had changed the constitution to run for a third term, sparking widespread protests. “The real putschists, the most numerous and those who avoid any condemnation are also those who plot and scheme… in order to stay in power eternally,” Doumbouya said. How will you rate his speech? Do you think he was correct?
