The announcement by the career diplomat Daniel Travis sent both shockwaves and delight across the Sierra Leone community. The shock was too much for cocaine king Julius Maada Bio and his failed cronies to swallow, because the news of the Lungi Bridge’s construction came as a big surprise to them.

Even Maada Bio’s top SLPP team never in their wildest dreams expected such an announcement from the American diplomat at this crucial point in time, because the Bio bandits could not remember discussing anything with the US government about the construction of the Lungi Bridge. However, the silent majority of Sierra Leoneans are obviously delighted that the new government shall construct it among others.

Latest information emanating from State Lodge, the official residence of the Sierra Leone President, did not make good reading either for the electoral SLPP thieves. Shocked SLPP/Paopa officials inquired of Bio when they heard the news of the building of the Lungi Bridge from the US envoy. Bio, in his quiet mood, did not say much about what was amiss. He neither confirmed nor denied knowledge of the construction of the Lungi Bridge.

But it was clear from those present at the Lodge that Maada Bio did not know that the US government had this construction plan for the Lungi Bridge in the pipeline. Who did the Americans discuss the Lungi Bridge with? The only likely person is Dr Samura Kamara, the president-elect, and a few patriotic citizens.

This was kept top secret until Envoy Travis made it public. Every Sierra Leonean knows the misleading propaganda about the construction of the Lungi Bridge, spewed by the SLPP regime in 2018, when Maada Bio assumed power in dubious circumstances from the former President, Ernest Koroma, the evil-in-chief.

The boisterous SLPP regime even went so far as to print T-shirts and banners to welcome the construction of the Lungi Bridge that never was. Despite the public propaganda, the construction of the Lungi Bridge never materialised. Shame on Bio and his cohorts. The SLPP guys are failures. Bio is at State House but not in power.

Today, a few years later, everyone saw the lies, violence, and barbarism of the Bio regime. Now, the truth is coming to fruition after the US government apparently promised to erect the Lungi Bridge among other vital policies with the full knowledge of the President-elect, Dr Samura Kamara- who else? Surely, the restoration of democracy is just a matter of time.
