Many international stakeholders are coming to the aid of the most suffering Sierra Leoneans amid the continuous violence and human rights violations, mass killings, arbitrary arrests, and other vices they are facing in Sierra Leone. Leading the race in holding Bio to account is the United States of America government which is conspicuously showing its strength against the tyrannical SLPP regime of Maada Bio. Disappointingly, the United Kingdom government of Rishi Sunak is yet to reveal the frontline contributions expected of them to protect lives and property in Sierra Leone. Most importantly, the UK has so far failed to properly hold the autocratic SLPP regime of Maada Bio into account for all the problems created to inflict more hardship and hopelessness on the people of Sierra Leone. Why is the UK government keeping mute? The American President Joe Biden is determined to defend democracy and the rule of law in Sierra Leone at all costs. Therefore, it is no surprise that the US State Department has implemented stringent measures to punish the Bio presidency because of the tendency to undermine democracy in Sierra Leone.

First, the US government withheld over 400 million US dollars from Millennium Challenge Corporation MCC cash from the Bio regime. Second, the Biden government imposed a stiff Travel Visa Ban on Maada Bio and all his corrupt SLPP government officials and their families for undermining the democratic process before, during, and after the crucial June 23, 2023 general and presidential elections which Maada Bio publicly stole with the help from the thieving Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone Mr Mohamed Kenewui Konneh. And now, the Americans have reacted strongly again by extending the Travel Visa ban on all Sierra Leoneans who would want to travel to the US. The US decided to upgrade the Travel Visa ban for every Sierra Leonean because of the insulting attitude exhibited by Maada Bio during his recent ridiculous Washington University speech where he accused the US government of interfering in the chaotic June 24 elections. Bravo to the Americans for standing up against barbarism and shame to the UK government for playing cat and mouse game at the detriment of the suffering Sierra Leoneans.

Despite all the previous protests and presentations of petitions by Sierra Leoneans to the UK government through 10 Downing Street and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Sunak administration seems to pay deaf ears to the plights of crying Sierra Leoneans. What is Foreign Secretary James Cleverly doing or done to salvage the unbearable situation in Sierra Leone, where his biological mother originated from? Sierra Leoneans are suspicious that James Cleverly has used his closeness with the corrupt Maada Bio to sweep the dangerous situation in Sierra Leone under the carpet.

“Truly speaking, we are not impressed with the UK attitude towards us. James Cleverly, who visited Sierra Leone a few months ago should wake up from his slumber to do the right things. Britain should be leading this campaign to protest democracy in Sierra Leone, especially being the former colonial masters of Sierra Leone,” Concerned Sierra Leoneans noted. Also, the European Union, the African Union, ECOWAS, Carter Centre, Irish Aid etc. are all on the side of the suffering people.
