Amnesty International Exposes the Dark Side of APC's Human Rights Score Card!
By a press release (03/03/18)
President Ernest Bai Koroma APC government has very low marks in human rights record according to Amnesty International latest reports.
The Amnesty International reports documented how the APC government has continued to trample on people’s human rights in Sierra Leone especially as the March 7, 2018 general and presidential elections draw nearer.
AI reports concluded that restrictions were imposed on the rights to freedom of expression, of peaceful assembly and of association. "Hundreds of people died and thousands were left homeless following a mudslide. Prison conditions fell far below international standards. Pregnant girls were excluded from school," AI reports highlight.
As Sierra Leoneans head to the polls on March 7, the latest electoral problem is the police banning of vehicular traffic during polling day, a very unpopular move that has angered many Sierra Leoneans. It is hoped that such human rights abuses by the APC party are not allowed to go unnoticed.
For it is only through electoral defeat that abuses such as highlighted in the Amnesty International report can be prevented. It remains to be seen if the electorates are now enlightened enough to vote for the right politicians.
