Injury Scare for Liverpool and Crystal Palace Stars in African Nations Qualifiers!

By a press release (17/10/18)

Four African English Premier League football stars have sustained injuries whilst on international duty in the African Nations Cup qualification.

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane (photo) who has scored four goals in 11 appearances for Liverpool this season, has reportedly suffered a broken thumb while on international duty with Senegal.

Images have emerged of the 26-year-old with a bandage on his left hand, coupled with an X-ray of the alleged injury. Sadio Mane was taken to hospital due to a minor injury in his hand ahead of Senegal's game against Sudan.

Sky Sports News has contacted Liverpool for a comment and is awaiting a response. Liverpool return to action on Saturday in the Premier League against Huddersfield.

Mane has broken this left thumb in training with Senegal national team, his injury could get worse if he played. He missed the game vs. Sudan and may miss Liverpool's clash against Huddersfield in the Premier League. (Photo: Wilfred Saha with the Ivory Coast football team).

Another Liverpool star Mohamed Salah also suffered a muscle injury while playing for Egypt, while Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk aggravated a previously sustained rib injury during the Netherlands' 3-0 win over Germany last Saturday.

Both players have been called back to Liverpool as a result so the club can monitor their fitness, although Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman claims Van Dijk will be fine for Saturday's trip to the John Smith's Stadium.

"The medical staff of the Dutch national team spoke to the medical staff of Liverpool and made the decision that he was playing only the Germany game and then after back to Liverpool," said Koeman.

Guinean international, Naby Keita of Liverpool was also injured. Reports say Liverpool are waiting to find out the extent of midfielder Naby Keita's injury he sustained while on international duty with Syli Nationale. He is set to undergo a scan on a suspected hamstring complaint.

Also, Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha suffers injury while on international duty with Ivory Coast and there is doubt whether Saha will be available for the Everton v Crystal Palace live on Sky Sports this Sunday. (Photo: Mo Salah, Egyptian captain).

Zaha played the full 90 minutes against the Central African Republic in Abidjan on Friday, registering an assist in a comfortable 4-0 win for the hosts.

Crystal Palace have refused to confirm whether Zaha is undergoing tests for a suspected adductor injury, but say all players returning from international duty will be assessed before their trip to Goodison Park to face Everton, live on Renault Super Sunday.

Wilfried Zaha is reported to have withdrawn from Ivory Coast's squad for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier second leg against the Central African Republic.

But his absence for Tuesday's return match in Bouake gives Roy Hodgson a potential selection headache with striker Christian Benteke requiring knee surgery, ruling him out until the New Year.

Zaha, who scored nine goals for Palace last season, has already found the back of the net three times in seven Premier League games this term.
