"Dormant Sierra Leone Premier League Footy Competition to Kick Off Soon," SLFA!

By a press release (27/05/18)

After a long dormancy, the Sierra Leone Football Association SLFA has finally decided to resume Premier League football competitions again.

In line with government’s push to see football gets back to action in the country, the Executive Committee of the Sierra Leone Football Association met on Monday the May 21, 2018 for deliberations. (Photo: SLFA President Isha Johansen).  The following resolutions were made:

1. The Committee has proposed that the extra Ordinary Congress of the SLFA be held on the last week of July 2018 in Bo City with two agenda items. (a) To adopt the revised SLFA statute as directed by the FIFA Road Map; (b) To adopt the SLFA Code of Ethics after domesticating it in line with FIFA Code of Ethics.

2. The Sierra Leone Premier League to commence with the composition of the Premier League Board (PLB) approved by the Executive Committee of the FA and the League Clubs. The FA has agreed to provide the sum of Le 400,000,000 (Four Hundred Million Leones) which is $55,000 (Fifty Thousand US Dollars) equivalent to the PLB to commence the league as soon as possible.

3. Regional FAs should commence the organisation of the 1st and 2nd Division Leagues nationwide and send in their budgets to the FA for funding.

4. Western Area Football Association (WAFA) to present its representative in the Executive Committee of the FA and its new Secretary to enable its Secretariat to function properly.

The Executive Committee of SLFA would like to reaffirm its commitment to the peace process and also to comply fully with the instructions and directives of the FIFA Road Map in ensuring that sanity and integrity returns to Sierra Leone Football.
Sierra Leone footy fans will definitely welcome this good news as Sierra Leone club football has been non-existent for a very long time. Now football crazy fans will soon have the opportunity to watch their favourite clubs like East End Lions, Mighty Blackpool, Real Republicans, Kamboi Eagles of Kenema, Wasum Stars etc. Hopefully, SLFA will put aside their unhelpful politics and concentrate on improving this discipline.
