APC and SLPP Party Supporters Engage in a Bloody Fight in Kono

By Philip Koroma in Kono (17/12/15)

Bloody fisticuffs emanating from Kono, the diamond rich town in the eastern part of Sierra Leone, have turned the township upside down.

Journalist Philip Koroma has first hand information after visiting Koidu city and paid a snap visit to constituency 025 in Sewafeh where Bye Election is slated for Saturday 19th December 2015. (Pictured: Sierra Leone Police boss Francis Munu, has a difficult to job to bring peace in Kono).

Ahead of the Bye Election, supporters of the two major political parties - the ruling All Peoples Congress APC and the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party SLPP - are reported to have engaged themselves in a bloody fight resulting to the intervention of both the police and military personnel.

Eyewitness accounts have alleged that live arms were used by the two factions thereby leaving some supporters from both parties seriously injured. It is still not clear which faction of party supporters fired the live bullets. Some reports are suggesting that it was a short gun (a single barrel) that was used during the fracas.

However, as we go to press, the Sierra Leone police have succeeded in arresting few suspects who are now helping them in their investigations.

Reports also confirmed that the military and police are busy conducting a thorough surveillance around the constituency to ensure peace and stability prevail.

Terrible pictures of victims bloodied in the fights have made the rounds in social media to the disgust of many peaceful Sierra Leoneans.
