"Sports will Usher Teamwork and Unity in Diversity," Deputy Ministers Tell Kenema

By a press release (11/07/18)

Kenema District has been reminded again how teamwork in diversity in sports is the best way a country can achieve unity and development.

This message was aired recently in Kenema District, Eastern Sierra Leone during a visit by the Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Lusine Kallon and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security Mr. Samking Koihinah Braima. (Photo: Deputy Agriculture Minister Samking, centre).

Reports intimate that hundreds of youths gathered at the Kenema Government Secondary School football pitch where a match between Kenema Home Base Versus Kenema JC ended with one all draw.

It was organised by the House of Pain Attaya Base Organisation. Those who hailed from Kenema but currently residing outside the township played against those staying in Kenema town and its environs.

The Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs scored the first goal for the Kenema JC team amid a short dribble whilst J Bayoh scored the equalising goal in the second half of the match.

After the match, the Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Lusine Kallon told journalists: "Football has taught me teamwork and unity in diversity." He said this is the easiest way of bringing youths together despite their professional or unskilled background, tribe, regional or political affiliations.

In reaffirming President Julius Maada Bio's commitment, Minister Kallon said the SLPP government has sports on top of his priority development agenda, and therefore assured that President Bio is ready to exhalt Sierra Leone's lost glory especially in football. Minister Kallon concluded: "But what is better is the strengthening of our existing bond."

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security Sam King said: "We have decided to be around our people and demonstrate that the New Direction is not only about governance but to rejuvenate families and unite all Sierra Leoneans."

He went on to say that as Ministers they want to show gratitude to their people and demonstrate to all citizens that it is good to be around your family. He said football unites people in a bond of love and that is why they organised and played in the game.

The Deputy Agriculture Minister played in the midfield and later swapped to the center forward. The Chief Executive Officer, National Procurement Authority Ibrahim Swaray did the kickoff.

The Coordinator of the event Mohamed Sesay popularly known as CSO said event of this nature will be organised on yearly basis to reunite all indigenes of the District. He called on those who are outside Sierra Leone to support the process and try to grace the occasion.
