Education Minister's Plans to Stop Public Exams Malpractices in Sierra Leone!

By a press release (09/06/18)

The widespread examination cheats and malpractices in Sierra Leone will be nipped in the bud by the new Education Minister Alpha Timbo.

In a bid to stemming widespread malpractice in public examinations, SierraLeone’s Minister of Primary and Secondary Education says all NPSE answer booklets are being marked at designated centres across the country. (Photo: Will Education Minister Alpha Timbo's plans to eradicate cheats in examinations succeed?)

Minister Timbo has recently disclosed that examiners would have to be travelling to these West African Examination Council WAEC centres, at the expense of the state, to mark the primary school leaving exams papers where they would leave the answer sheets and return later to continue.

In the past, examiners have been caught exchanging answer booklets at home and even providing new ones for pupils to rewrite the examinations.

Meanwhile, reacting to the recent move by the Catholic Church to end primary school leaving graduation ceremonies on the grounds they’re exploiting parents, Mr Timbo said anything that brought additional expenditure on parents by such authorities, including these graduations, would be scrapped.
