Security Confiscates Stolen Free Health Care Products in Sierra Leone!
By a press release (28/01/18)
A joint team has apprehended a consignment of pharmaceutical products meant for the Free Health Care programme in Sierra Leone.
Reports say the raid was jointly done by the Central Intelligence and Security Unit (CISU), the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Sierra Leone Police in the capital Freetown. (Photo: Sierra Leone Police Chief Richard Moigbe).
The medical products were believed to have been stolen from the Central Medical Stores, New England Ville and conveyed to the Goal Pharmaceutical, 39 Sani Abacha Street, Freetown.
The products include sixty-seven cartoons of hand gloves and hospital beds. Following a tip off, the operation team pursued the blue delivery van with registration number AJX 663, which was transporting the medical products.
The owner of Goal Pharmaceutical Sia Basma was arrested by the team during the operation and is helping police with their investigations.
It remains to be seen if Sierra Leoneans will see justice prevail in this regard. Corruption is very endemic in Sierra Leone from top government officials to the lowest in society. The ACC, mandated by legislation to prosecute offenders, has in most cases being disappointing to say the least.
