Sierra Leoneans are unhappy local celebrity Zainab Sheriff is allegedly blackmailing the Africa Young Voices media for contractual reasons.
Reports say Zainab Sheriff, the CEO of ZedZee Multi Media Ltd, who recently partnered with Africa Young Voices (AYV) in organising the first reality TV Show in Sierra Leone, has been criticized by many Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad for blackmailing the Africa Young Voices. The AYV, a media empire that is moving from the traditional media to developing the media landscape in the country, in a press statement issued on Monday December 31, 2018, explained that the Big Sister reality TV Show was not an initiative of Zainab Sheriff.
They disclosed that Zainab came to the AYV and suggested that she wanted a reality TV Show called 'Bondo Bush'. But the AYV counter-suggested that a 'Big Sister' nomenclature would be a better suggestion to 'Bondo Bush'. Both Zainab and the AYV team reportedly agreed to the 'Big Sister' name. Big Sister is an established African Brand (https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/movie-Television-Studio/Big-Sister-Africa-145178089467271/).
AYV ‘s Dr. Lakkoh explained: "The idea is for AYV and Zainab Sheriff to adopt an African concept. The AVY is a multimedia empire and its entertainment channel 34, was not established to run the Big Sister Show only. It has invested huge sums to run several reality shows, including Big Brother housemate Sierra Leone.
"The Big Sister TV reality show was a success because of the intervention of telecommunications giant Africell. The five year agreement signed between AYV and Zedzee stated that the two institutions shall share a 50/50 profit as rightly mention by Zainab, but she failed to mention that the agreement states the responsibilities of each party. Each party is obliged to bring its investment 14 days to the commencement of the show. But she failed to meet that provision and this prompted the intervention of Africell.
"She did not tell Sierra Leoneans why the Big Sister 2018 show was postponed twice and why she abandoned the show as the Big Sister voice in the show. She was supposed to provide the car, the Star Prize and the Le10,000,000. While AYV invests in the production and the International transmission of the Big Sister show (a two hundred and fifty thousand dollars investment) and to handle both the technical and content and produce the show.
"With AYV telling just half of what transpired between them and Zainab, CEO of ZedZee, Sierra Leoneans now believe that all what she is doing is a form of blackmailing the AVY, which she will not succeed because every day entertainers approach the AYV to help in promoting their activities," AYV ‘s Dr. Lakkoh explained.
