300 Million for APC Flag Bearer Aspirants to Qualify for the APC Slot?

By Lawrence Williams (16/04/17)

Some say politics is cheap in Sierra Leone. Wake up now as reports have alleged that APC aspirants must cough up 300 Leones to vie.

Those aspiring to become the next flag bearer of the All People’s Congress (APC) party would be absolutely flabbergasted upon learning that they will have to pay a whopping sum of 300 Million Leones in order to qualify for the race to succeed the incumbent President Ernest Koroma (pictured)  whose term of office is gradually coming to an end.

This top secret was closely whispered to this reporter by a competent source who preferred to remain anonymous for fear that he might become a target for political witch-hunt.

The fact that the APC party in contemporary times is perceived to be a fertile ground for political success has moved guys like John Sesay, Alimamy Petito Koroma and others resigning their positions as public officials to go after that desirous position - including buying their way through it if need be.

And while a big-money-spender like John Sesay will not scratch his head to deliver the 300 million leones payment for the flag bearer competition, it may be viewed as a congruous plan to disenfranchise other potential aspirants who may not be as rich as him.

It can also be viewed as a covert political arrangement to have John Sesay become the next flag-bearer of the All People’s Congress and eventually succeed his relative and comrade, President Koroma.

Whether the likes of Alimamy 'Petito' Koroma, Hon. Ibrahim Bundu and others that have expressed interest in the race will have to challenge the price or protest its reduction is a whole subject for another day.
