Yumkella Endorsed by Kenyan Firebrand Pan African Prof Lumumba

By press release (17/07/17)

Breakaway SLPP Sierra Leone politician Dr. Kandeh Yumkella has been endorsed by firebrand Kenyan Pan African Prof PLO Lumumba.

Reports say Professor Lumumba recently endorsed Sierra Leone Presidential Hopeful Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella (pictured) at a public lecture in Nkrumah Hall, University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania - June 2017.

Referring to Dr. Yumkella as the former head of UNIDO, a Sierra Leonean who's contesting to be Sierra Leone President, Prof Lumumba said: “I said to a friend of mine if this man has these ideas and I was a Sierra Leonean I would vote for him,” Prof Lumumba remarked.

Prof Lumumba's endorsement further strengthens the belief that Dr. Yumkella is a highly credible Sierra Leonean with the desired requisites, experience, compassion, backed by a wide range of available global networks to deliver the vision and aspirations of Sierra Leoneans as President come 2018.

He also noted that African’s political hygiene has been spoiled by politicians openly engaging in corruption and stealing national wealth, while the youth suffer from high unemployment rates. According to the Kenyan orator, African countries should not be proud of their independence if they still can’t feed themselves and continue to depend on the West for even crop seeds.

"Tanzania President Magufuli is a good example for Africa and should be emulated by fellow African leaders,” he said, adding: “The continent will only be safe if its politics are ‘Magufulified’ like in Tanzania.”

Referring to recent happenings in Tanzania, he said it is not easy for  a ‘white gentlemen’ to go to State House and express regret to the president for past international business misdeeds. “And like a Catholic priest, President Magufuli says ‘I hear you my son...I will forgive you but you must pay for the revenue loss to the country.”

Prof. PLO Lumumba is currently the Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya School of Law. He is a former Secretary of the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission and former Director of the defunct Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission, (KACC).

He was recognised by the Kenya-USA Association for the Martin Luther King Jnr. Leadership Award in 1996 and was the recipient of the 2008 Martin Luther King Africa Salute to Greatness Award by the Martin Luther King Jr. Africa Foundation.

He has also been included in the Marquis Who’s Who in the World and is the Distinguished Mwalimu Nyerere Lecturer for 2014.

He has been trained on Humans Rights at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies University of London in England and at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of the University of Lund in Sweden and on International Humanitarian Law in Geneva, Switzerland.

He is a holder of Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws degrees from the University of Nairobi and a LL.D from the University of Ghent, Belgium.
