Resident Minister Makes Unannounced Visit to the Sierra Leone/Guinea Border!

By Gibril Gottor (28/06/18)

Resident Minister of the Northwest Region has made an unannounced visit to the customs posts at the Sierra Leone and Guinean border.

The emergency visitation to the Gbalamuya Customs Post border by Resident Minister Haja Isata Abdulai was to identify challenges that have become an hindrance to revenue maximisation and at the same time to listen to concerns from the business community in the area. (Photo: Minister Isata Abdulai, left, posed with her former ADP party boss Kairambai).

During her visit, the Resident Minister Northwest made a stop at the Guinean border Town of Pamalap after a brief engagement with border personnel including newly transferred customs officers on the Sierra Leonean side, where she interfaced with business people, drivers and commercial bike riders.

The National Revenue Authority (NRA) believes the Gbalamuya Customs post which borders Guinea and Sierra Leone is a major trading hub for thousands of mainly female indigenous Sierra Leonean importers and exporters.

And its importance should not be seen in merely statistical revenue terms, but also of national security importance for both sister countries. Reports say the Gbalamuya Customs Post is also known as the Third Revenue Port in Sierra Leone.

One clear characteristics of the SLPP government of President Julius Maada Bio is its ability to make unannounced visits to government institutions to see if the workers there are actually carrying out their national duties positively as expected.
