SLPP Govt's 50% School Fees Payments for NPSE Pupils to WAEC is Positive!

By a press release (09/05/18)

The Government of Sierra Leone has paid Le 2.1 billion school fees for 121,000 NPSE Sierra Leonean pupils to the West African Exams Council.

This good news happened on Friday, May 4, 2018 when the SLPP government of President Julius Maada Bio helped pay 50% of the school fees to WAEC as well as made payments in full the balance arrears of gratuities owed to former members of parliament to the tune of Le17 billions. Reports say, the MPs arrears clearance is part of the new government efforts to pay genuine liabilities they inherited from the previous APC government, which analysts estimate to be in the region of 4.0 trillion Leones owed to institutions and contractors. This is part of the impact of Executive Order No1 on Revenue Mobilization.

In the last 5 years, Sierra Leone is one of the few countries in Africa able to pay public sector workers of a new ruling party government in the first of month of taking power without borrowing a single cent.

Unconfirmed reports say even bigger economies like Nigeria, Ghana and smaller economies like Gambia and very recently Liberia, all failed to pay public sector salaries in their first month.
